The corner stone of the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation is a sincere love for México and a profound commitment to our country’s development.

Throughout its existence, our Foundation has tried its very best to fulfill this fundamental commitment in a variety of ways. Some of them have been successful, and some others have met with difficulties, but in either case our enthusiasm has not waned.

Our Foundation has undertaken many projects on its own initiative and has examined and decided to support several others that were presented to us by local communities in various regions of México and by public entities from the three levels of government in need of funding.

We are well aware that in order to be successful our efforts have to be supported by the efforts of others. That is why our Foundation has worked alongside with governments and communities without any regard to their political and partisan points of view or their religious and cultural backgrounds. This joint effort has always produced positive results.The Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation was created more than a decade ago. Subsequently, came the Asociación Civil Filantropía, Educación y Cultura (Philanthropy, Education and Culture Foundation), Amigos de Oaxaca, A.C. (Friends of Oaxaca), Servicios Comunitarios Oaxaca, A.C. (Community Services of Oaxaca), Oaxaca Sicarú, A.C. (Oaxaca Sicarú), and the Fundación Alfredo Harp Helú para el Deporte, A.C. (Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation for Sports). The Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation is the parent foundation of the other five. So when we speak about it we are, as a matter of fact, including the efforts undertaken by the other five organizations.México needs different kinds of aid. Our Foundation has worked, and will continue to work, under this premise. We support proposals that benefit people from different walks of life if the purpose of these proposals coincides with our goals and meet our requirements. We truly believe in supporting actions that nourish the spirit, such as education, culture, sports, productive endeavors, as well as efforts to improve the conditions of life of the poor and the quality of the health services provided to them.

We are convinced that best way to develop México is by peaceful means. That is why a great deal of our effort is focused on stimulating creativity as an instrument to improve our conditions of life. Under this premise we are helping to build new schools, to fund scholarships for impoverished students, and to finance distance education. Our Foundation is especially dedicated to the improvement of education among the poor, who unfortunately comprise the largest portion of the Mexican population.
